Update 0.5 - "Rank"

Welcome to Update 0.5! This update brings you the Gameplay Rank feature! Also includes major balancing, restructured levels and enhanced visuals. Read below for more details - or update the game now!

WARNING: Your previous progress will be deleted when you run this new version. 

RANK

What exactly is the rank system about? It's simple - destroying enemies give you points, and at the end your rank for that level is calculated based on how much points you get! Combos (targeting multiple enemies before destroying them all at once) will give you a lot more score than just single attacks. 

Rank D is the lowest, while Rank S is a perfect score. You need to get a minimum of Rank B to unlock the next stages, so combos are now really crucial!

WHAT NEXT?

Next on the roadmap is to replace the (pretty useless) class system. I have a pretty great idea on what should replace it, and the idea fits right in with the not-yet-in-game narrative. Yes, there's a story to all these bullet mayhem...

VISUALS

  • added anti-aliasing
  • changed enemy and boss appearance 
  • changed appearance of level selection
  • made attack trails appear smoothly
  • player targeting lines no longer affected by class color to avoid confusion with lasers
  • animated lasers

GAMEPLAY

  • tutorial now explains SHIFT function
  • added a "beam" that highlights player aim
  • rebalanced difficulty, especially bullet and laser patterns
  • fixed some big bugs in the content  generator

LEVEL LAYOUT

  • level layout revamp - structure is no longer random (level is still procedurally generated)
  • level layout camera no longer follows player
